Samsara Digital Brand System

Samsara Digital Brand System

Samsara Digital Brand System

Overview

When Samsara’s rebrand launched, an agency had defined the new brand — but the identity was still a work in progress when my team began the web redesign, which meant building the digital brand system in parallel with the brand itself rather than after it was finished. My core role was leading the web redesign, from early concepting through a full component library built for developer handoff, but the rebrand’s reach extended well past the marketing site: I led design for the Samsara Academy learning platform, owned the redesign and templating of our event landing pages, and worked with Campaign Ops to rebuild our email and newsletter system.

Web Redesign & Design System

Context + Approach

The web redesign started with an outline from our content and digital strategy team for two top-tier pages — the homepage and a key product feature page. From there, my digital design team explored concepts, and I pushed some early directions that were genuinely bold and unconventional, using Claude Code to prototype the interactions so stakeholders could feel the idea rather than just look at a static comp. Once a direction was approved, my role shifted to building the foundation: a full component library that was development-ready and translated cleanly into Contentful, built alongside our web engineers to understand exactly what the platform could and couldn’t support. I set up Figma governance and proposed a branching workflow so every new component and token change was documented and accounted for, and built out QA documentation in Figma so the system would still be usable — and used correctly — long after launch. I also built a Python script to pull metadata across every page requiring it and auto-generate OG images for each page across all 7 regions, removing what had been manual, repetitive prep work ahead of launch.

Context + Approach

As design lead for Samsara Academy, I applied the new design system to our learning platform, ThoughtIndustries, making sure it stayed visually consistent with the marketing site while working within the platform’s own constraints. The focus wasn’t learner personas so much as learning content and interface — how the course listing page presented itself, and how the actual step-by-step course experience looked and felt. Our learner audience ranges from drivers to highly tech-savvy users, so the interface had to stay easy to follow regardless of how comfortable someone was with software in general.

As design lead and page builder for our events landing pages on Splash, I redesigned over 30 existing pages to align with the new brand system, and built a new set of reusable templates for future Samsara events — meaning new events could launch on-brand without needing a page designed from scratch each time. Working closely with our marketing ops manager, I identified which pages needed a full redesign versus which could move to the new template system going forward.

Email & Newsletter Redesign

Context + Approach

Redesigned Samsara’s full set of newsletter and email campaign templates, rebuilding them across the different email engines we use. This meant designing within each platform’s own technical constraints while keeping every template consistent with the new brand system, working closely with Campaign Operations Managers throughout.

Once live, the system held up under real use. Our EVP & CMO called out the brand’s rollout directly, noting she’d “heard great feedback” on the work and calling scaling the new brand “our next big opportunity.” That scale showed up fast: the Safety Summit event series alone generated $2.4M+ in pipeline in a single quarter, later expanding to 19 cities across the US and Canada, all built on the same page templates and brand system established here. The rebrand’s reach eventually extended into paid media production as well — a Claude skill I helped build later automated the creation of 2,000+ digital and social ads, saving the design team 50%+ of production time on ad requests. (Full detail on how that tool works lives in Tooling & Automation.)
